My Homeopathic Journey Part I: Discovering the Healing Powers of Homeopathy
When my son was two-years-old I made a discovery that changed my life. Homeopathy. I had known about homeopathy since I was a child, but having enjoyed good health throughout my young-adult life, I hadn't thought much about it – until I hit my mid-thirties.
As the mother of a two-year-old, I always seemed to have a cold. My nose ran, my eyes watered, and my cough wouldn't go away. When my cold symptoms began to feel more like allergy symptoms I decided it was time to stop for a minute, check in with myself, and seek help.
I didn't want to take over the counter medications; I had tried acupuncture once when I was pregnant and hadn't had much success; so I did a Google search for a homeopath in my neighborhood and made an appointment.
The homeopath asked all kinds of questions about my health history, food preferences, and my emotional state. I remember she would ask a question – for example about what foods I liked to eat – and then ask more questions to drill down to very specific information about me. Or she would ask a variety of different questions about the same topic to get at the answer from different angles. She was thorough, but provided a very relaxed, gentle atmosphere. I hadn't experienced anything like it before, but I found the process enjoyable and very gentle.
Although it was the typical allergy symptoms that brought me to the homeopath – watery eyes, runny nose, cough – it was my entire state of health and history that helped the homeopath choose a remedy for me. She prescribed a remedy, and after a few days of taking it, I immediately experienced a physical change in my symptoms.
I'll share the details of my experience in my next post, and look forward to publishing a series of short essays on my personal experiences with homeopathic remedies throughout 2018.
